Oh - you bet 'cha! It's expensive, so a little rent money from mommy and daddy will come in handy. Hopefully you have a car, or plan on getting one when you arrive, or you'll be stuck, because public transportation is really terrible here. It's a good college town, we have quite a few large universities SDSU, USD, UCSD and up and coming CAL State San Macos in the north county ( just to name the big ones). It does get chilly in the winter - but you'll barely need more than a sweatshirt. We don't have a huge mosquito problem here - we have some, but not bad. It's usually also not too humid - but this summer has been unusually humid. When it rains it pours...it's true. It'll rain for days at a time. If there's a sign that says don't drive through the puddle...don't! EVERY year someone gets stuck up to the steering wheel in the San Diego River in Mission Valley. Alsom be very careful on the road when it rains, there is usually a lot of oil buildup on the road because there is so much time between rain events....the roads get really slick. We have a lot of really bad traffic, so if you're not living on campus, try to find a place as close to school and job as possible. You don't want to spend all your non study time on the freeway. Most of SD is relatively safe, but if you are out at night be sure you have someone walk you to your car...even on campus (it doesn't matter which one either). It's been a while but UCSD had people you could call that would take you to your car or wait for the shuttle with you. I don't recommend going to Tijuana to party either. I think it could be kind of dangerous circumstances. I only went there once and I didn't feel safe even though I was with two guys. I didn't like what was going on around me. Other that that...it's a big city/county and spread out pretty far. It's way nicer than LA and I've heard froma lot of people how much they ejoyed their college years here.

You are going to LOVE San Diego. My husband came there for college and never left. So, here I am now!!! Anyway, you might get a shock from all the traffic, people and business, but you will love Pacific Beach to go out with all your new college friends. And living there is SO MUCH FUN! We lived on Cass St. before we were married and rent was about 1000K per month (without roommates). I vote living there. Someone said Ocean Beach, but for a college student, Pacific Beach is more fun, more young people and more people from all over the country. We have so many friends in SD and none of them are from here which is nice. Most everyone we know is from back east. You can also live downtown which would be totally fun, but it's quite expensive. Pacific Beach all the way. You wont' regret it!

Your first reaction will be to the large latino population, but not to worry. Other than even mild concerns for southeast San Diego, this is for the most part a very safe/friendly city.
Your next realization will be the fact that this is really an irregated, otherwise desert area, not the land of 1000 lakes you are used to.
You will however love the beach area, and easy mountain access.
Depending upon your school, you may also encounter a lot of oriental competition, so much the better.
I am sure that your school website can provide much more!

I live in lengthy sea coast now, even with the undeniable fact that I lived in San Diego at the same time as i became 23 went to SDSU, i'm 31 now even with the undeniable fact that it easily hasnt switched over plenty. that is gorgeous, and the human beings are more desirable laid back then l. a.. There are alot of places with youthful human beings you would possibly want to need to study out the San Diego state problem provided that it is going to be slightly a lot less extreme priced then Pacific or challenge seashore places, that are quite pleasant. The state college problem is about 8 miles inland so it maintains it a lot less extreme priced. in case you desire live close a seashore, its a lot less extreme priced to live in Ocean sea coast, its settle down there in case you do not mind hippies. i think its sort of adverse to plot a move with none quite plan, your more desirable off scouting some places, in the journey that your moving with no pastime, and arent going to college your going to need to have some funds to fall back on i need you sturdy fortune.

Resist the urge to go to Tijuana to party or go anywhere in Mexico. Bad things happen to people down there, it is not worth it. Avoid East San Diego, Logan Heights, etc, bad parts of town. If you are going to SDSU, avoid the fraternities and watch your back if you are renting in that area. UCSD is a much better part of the city, but you will need a car. You will need a car wherever you live because public transportation is awful. For the most part, San Diego is a safe and friendly city, just use reasonable caution at all times, don't do stupid things like get drunk at parties.

San Diego is a very big county. If you're a young person you'd like the beach cities, particularly Ocean Beach. Give your self some time to pick the best spot to settle in.

Throw away yer umbrella and yer coats! If yer gonna be living in the hills be careful if you have small pets. There's small wildcats that won't do anything to you but they'll eat Fi Fi for din-din. Good luck.
