The question is too broad. You need to break it down into theories of love (see the PhD thesis of Doxie Hatch from Temple U.), marriage, societal mores on the subject and even social theories of marriage.

Some people get married because they feel that is the way of life.Like that will help them grow up. Some get married because are trying to bring someone into the country. Some get married so they won't burn with lust and end up sinning. That is what the Bible advices us to do.

Some remain single because they saw bad breakups. They stay single to remain celibate. They stay single to focus more on God.
