I have family that come from that area of West Virginia. The Mothman legend actually goes back as far as the pre-colonial days amongst the Indian tribes that lived in the areas. It use to be that sighting the Mothman was a bad Omen, and that terrible things would befall anyone who laid eyes on it. I've never heard of the Mothman actually hurting people, but it was always strange how some people who had recently reported seeing the Mothman would sometimes die in strange ways.

Mothman was the name given to a strange creature sighted many times in the Charleston and Point Pleasant areas of West Virginia between November 1966 and November 1967. Some observers described the creature as a man-sized beast with wings and large reflective red eyes, while others claimed that the creature possessed luminous eyes. A number of hypotheses have been put forward to explain what people reported, ranging from paranormal phenomena to owls, but no definitive explanation seems likely.

Ahh yes Mothman. An interesting little story. Supposedly its a creature that inhabits the wooded areas of West Virginia. The most active period of its activity were in 1966 and 1967 although sporadic reports still come in. its supposedly very tall with wings and red eyes. It also utters a piercing bone chilling cry. Whether its real or simply the result of too much moonshine by some people remains open to question.

It was a winged lizard person from the Inner Earth. It could foretell the future. Many strange paranormal phenomena occured in that same area at that same time. These include poltergeist activity, encounters with Men In Black, sightings of strange lights in night sky, odd sounds being heard from wilderness areas.
