You put water in a boll and put peper in it and put a drope of dish washing liquid in it and it seporates the peper.

the pepper is dirty and doesn't want to be cleaned by the detergent so it trys to escape the water and finds out that the top is as far as it can go

The pepper is not floating, but is actually sitting on top the water. This is possible because water has a property called "Sufrace Tension" due to its cohesion.

When you put detergent in the water (or any other surfacant) you break the surface tension.

I agree with Mickey but pepper is too big to be treated like superficial-tensed substance...I think that little bubbles of air under it in fact are moving,acting like carriers for the pepper.
