How can you make use of this abundance of information and still guard against plagiarism?

A teacher I had once said that the secret to not plagirizing was to make sure your notes only included exact quotes. That way when you are writing your own stuff you can look back and make sure that you're not just repeating what you read. I agree that that is the best way to not accidently plagirize.

I do know that they have programs now that can check your work against other previous works to make sure that you didn't plagirize a paper or article of somebody else's. My son's high school uses it to make sure people aren't "sharing" their papers.

Generally speaking people who plagiarize are idiots and you know when they are cheating.

I think the prevalance of good stuff makes it easier to find the cheaters.

Lets also not forget that its also easy to google things.

it is easier to plagiarize, but its easier to figure out when someone is doing so. copyrights are best, something like that.

Its not as easy to plagarize as you think.
There is software that teachers, professors and editors use to detect plagarisim.
