If I enter a fraction, it will either reduce it or give me my question as an answer. Example: I typed 26/6 and it gave me 13/3 instead of 4.33333.... I've looked in the menues and I can't find a way to change it so I can have a decimal answer like I can get on a simple calulator.

I have the TI-89 Titanium. What you want to do is put a decimal after the 6. For example, 26, then divide symbol, then 6, then decimal, then enter. The decimal at the end of the last character in a problem makes the calculator convert the answer to the decimal equivalent.

Try approx(26/6)

You get approx( by pressing the F2 key at the top, scrolling to approx(, and hitting the ENTER key. It took me a while to find it, too. The TI-89 likes to compute exact, algebraic answers, and you need approx( or something like it to make it give decimals like a usual calculator.

Try sin(2*pi/5) and see what you get (Don't enter pee-eye. Enter 2nd and then the pi key, which is the same as the ^ key, to get the actual Greek letter.)

Go into your manual and look up approximation. Or you can look right above the enter button. You will see a squiggly equal symbol. That will do what you need.
