I've never been treated with anything but the utmost courtesy by the French when I have visited their beautiful country. Those whom I have spoken to at any length about political subjects have been well-informed, and clearly distinguish my views from those of my government. They haven't told me they love me, but they've taken care to let me know that they like and respect Americans who embody the good things America represents. It's mutual.

I'm sure there is some hostility amongst some French people toward Americans, just as there is plainly some hostility toward the French by some Americans, as many of the responses to this question plainly show. However, reasonable people don't indulge in childish name calling or uninformed generalizations. Thankfully, there are still reasonable people in both countries.

BTW, muddnbricks. A little history for you. The American Revolution was fought and won with considerable help from the French. So much help, in fact, that the USA would not exist without it. Look it up, before you calculate historical debts between these two countries.

The French are cowards and would be speaking German had America not given its blood to save them twice. We Americans don't give two squats about the French or what they think of us.

Even now they hide behind the EU.

Sure seem to hate us whenever I travel there... I've asked for directions and had policemen turn their back on me instead of answer the question. My hotel clerk was 83, told me the young people have short memories, but he knew if it wasn't for the Americans they would have all become part of Germany in the 40's.
