Eight days ago I was left to care for four piranhas. Two died which upset me a great deal. Now the remaining two have not eaten for 6 days. I have tried feeding them bloodworms from the pet shop which is frozen and fresh prawns from the fish counter in tesco. but, no joy. they are in a 63 litre tank, I think they should be ok in there but, they just won't eat at all and I am seriously worried that they will die. please someone help.

If they really are red belly piranhas they probably have been fed only live fish such as feeder guppies, small feeder goldfish and a minnow called a rosy red. Thus, they won't recognize anything that does not move as food.

The rosy reds are the safest for your piranhas. The other two have a good chance of introducing parasites and diseases because of bing raised in ponds outdoors.

I had some red bellies for a while and fed them rosies until I realized it was costing me an arm and a leg. The red bellies will get quite large and will eventually require a lot of live food. I ended up selling them at a fish club auction.

I used to have a red belly. Try raw chicken or beef. I know it sound cruel, but they like live food. Buy a goldfish & put it in. There is a possibility that if they are not interested, they may be a diierent type of Phirana. Beleive it or not, some are vegitarian!

My brother has red bellied piranhas. He goes to his local butcher who cuts up cow hearts, gets rid of the tough gristle bits then slices it all into small pieces for him! There's no messiness involved as the butcher does all the work. It's really cheap to buy too & the fish love it! Give it a try.....

Give them more oxygen and invite your friends over. Ask them to feel the water to see if it is warm enough. Some human fingers should satisfy them there fishes.
