My ex-wife gave me an ultimatum "either marry me or I will leave you". I was not ready for marriage but feared loosing her, so I proposed. We later got divorced. The moral is that you may need to gently push him, but if he is not ready and you force him, you may be worse off in the long run.

This isn't something you rush. If you do then there could be trouble during the marriage. It's something you talk about and plan for. If it gets to the point where you're ready and he doesn't show signs of every going that route, then move on. It's also the same the other way. If you two are truly in love and want to be together than it will happen. Patience isn't something that everyone is good at, but at least you can wait with the person you love.

Steph, I hope you're not talking about this guy you're going out with that only started introducing you as his girlfriend in May and refuses to tell you he loves you. If you push the marriage issue with him, you are going to have some serious problems. Stop worrying about the future and let him drive the pace of your relationship. If he wants to marry you, he will ask you.

Don't hint at it or get on his case about it. Expecting it and waiting will just make you angry. And then when he finally does it, you won't enjoy it.

Either wait patiently, or ask him yourself.

One of my friends was waiting for her bf to propose to her and one weekend on a trip, she got drunk and bitched him out about not proposing yet. Turns out he had the ring ready, and he was planning to propose that day. But since she ruined the moment, he had to wait a few weeks.

Other one of my friends and his gf are pretty close to getting engaged, which is should be a great thing except that they keep fighting over the fact that they are not engaged yet.

Just wait patiently, or propose to him.

You know that you cannot make a man ask you. You have to make him want to ask you. This is done by making him understand that there is no one else in the world who could understand him and love him like you do.

You don't just wait until he's ready. If that day never comes then he isn't the one for you.
