If your Avatar is a likeness of you as I bet it roughly is, I would like to say that those c**p books and authors you mention are kiddies books and a grown person should not read or be seen read such trivial material. Please grow up and get a life. I am fed up of seeing retarded adults reading these things on the train or in public places without any shame. There are millions of intelligent books for adults. If all fails, go to Harmony and get some mags. It makes my blood boil and fire come out of my nose and my ears ring like the bells of st Pauls. GRRRRR!!!!!

No competition - Rowlings formulaeic predictable bore or the crazed imaginings of a modern literary genius! On the quality of the writing alone, Pratchett wins hands down, let alone on the scope of the books. To be fair, the Discworld novels are aimed at a sophisticated older readership. The wit and literary allusion is just not present in Rowling's work.

I like Harry Potter. But Discworld is the best out of the both of them as it can be serious but there's a lot more humour and it doesn't always stick to the same characters all the time and it been around a lot longer than Harry Potter. Also it does different stories with witches, trolls, dwarfs wizards etc.

JK Rowling has written 6 novels so far, which have been fairly good, some better than others, the first was published in 1997, Terry Pratchett has written over 30 Discworld novels and over 20 other books, he has also written plays, films and computer games his first book was published in 1971 the first Discworld in 1983. JK has sold about 300 million books, Terry about 40 million books. The better writer, notwithstanding the sales figures, is Terry partially because he has been writing longer. He is one of the greatest humorous writers in the English language and is considered with Swift, Waugh, Amis, Twain etc

Most definitely Terry Pratchett's Discworld. Sadly the great man died recently, so hope God shows him mercy in the afterlife. Pratchett is an original thinker. His books constantly introduced new ideas and innovations. Rowling, on the other hand didn't showcase any specialty. She targets to a much more juvenile audience.

Terry Pratchett's first Discworld book had the joint merits of being funny and readable; I gave up after three more, it had become a stale joke.

My sister had a four book box-set of Harry Potter. I read the whole lot over a weekend visit because I'd read all her other books and I was curious as to what all the fuss was about. A single book that takes less than three days to read is hardly sufficiently demanding to merit consideration, never mind four books!

Result: a boring nil-nil draw.

It depends on what you're wanting out of it. I love Discworld - intelligent stuff for the more adult taste. But am an equal fan of Harry Potter for a simpler, easy plot and some escapism. So couldn't pick a winner, love them both.
P.s... Robespierre... Lighten up! Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean that others shouldn't - who d'you think you are??! It would be a truly boring world if we were all the same (especially if we were all like you).

Definitely Harry Potter. It's been way more successful than Discworld. To be honest, I've never even heard of Discworld, and therefore haven't read it, so I can't make a final judgement to which is better, although it's very likely to be Harry Potter.

Terry Pratchett, hands down. Multi-layered humour and completely original - wonderful books. Harry Potter's OK if you're 12.

Discworld. Rowling can never beat original thinkers, not being among them herself. Come one, there is not a single original story in her books - how much worse can one get? And Terry Pratchet will always give you a fresh angle at anything, regardless of what he writes about. Small Gods being my favourite, but there are plenty close - usually the ones with Death & family...
