The weakest thing in a pure democracy is protection of the rights of the minority. As I like to say, "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch".

1-Control of important parties and Media by rich and influence elite, Example: U.S.
2-partisan and shaky decisions by politicians instead of patriotic decisions because they have to answer public opinion.
3-Sometimes big pain full changes is needed in a society but just a dictator can push this kind of changes, Example: China
4-Influence of richer and stronger countries and Media on parties and public opinion. Example: Third world countries
5-Anarchism when there isn't enough infrastructure and experience in the society, Example: Russia, Yugoslavia
6-instability when there isn't a polar political system, Example: Italy
But: Still democracy is the best choice compare to other systems that have lots of weak points, but we have to try for and in democracy to reduce the weak points of it

The electorate. Representative democracy assumes that the electorate has the intelligence, education, and/or common sense to make good choices in representation.
