Get a good set of headphones. Run your favourite tunes through them while sitting at your drums, & start drumming along. Take lessons. Talk to other drummers. Sometimes local pro's hold clinics, or workshops at your local music store. Join a marching band (not kidding). Try any or all of the above.

Learn to read music. You can learn a lot by listening to other drummers, but I highly recommend formal lessons. There are some very informative instructional videos available as well. Dave Weckl,an amazing jazz fusion drummer, has some good "back to basics" videos. Practice, practice, practice.

Yes, practice!
Yes, play this way and that way!
Yes, buy a drumset or practice pad set or whatever and pound away!
But the best thing you can do for yourself as a MUSICIAN is learn the language.
Then you can take advantage of all the serious teachings that are available.
Here's a link to a really cool site.

all u need to do is practice. little stuff at first, for instance start on a snare, then when u start getting good, move up to the set, and try to play stuff that ur influenced by, when alot of songs down, u will have learned many techniques already w/o really knowing it.
