If you've been running on 4 hours of sleep for a while, then it's your Cicadian cycle trying to adjust itself. This is the thing in your biology that regulates your sleep cycle and your REM cycle. It's what causes jet lag, and that hit-by-a-truck feeling when you sleep more than you're used to.
I may have spelled that wrong.
You could also have a really high metabolism....or, do you nap during the day?
You'll feel more tired if you interrupt a REM cycle, also. I find I'm more rested on an even number of hours of sleep than I am on an odd number....even if the even number is less than half the time of the odd number.
I may be wrong on this account, but your body establishes a rhythm, called your biorhythm, and when you tinker with it, it screws you up. If you want to adjust your rhythm for some reason, keep to the cycle you want for about a month. On average, it takes about two to four weeks to reset your Cicadian cycle.

i am a 18 year old boy who has the same problems i believe it is because of change in behavior prior to your hours of sleep. I recommend you do not **** with your system because i did before and i flunked a final test if you feel more energized when you wake up with less hours of sleep then wake up then because t is like a rhythm that forms into your body if you mess up this rhythm the rhythm messes with you too it is then causing you to feel that hit-by-a-truck feeling you get because everybody's system is different and some are similar scientific research says this is a gene called the period 3 gene which means you can go and rest for only short hours of time and feel more energized then when you would sleep longer another name for the gene is called the clock gene

Simple answer: adrinaline. The amazing chemical that gives you energy. If you go to sleep at ten and wake up at six and still feel tired, that shows that eight hours isn't enough. But your brain thinks it is, so it doesn't feed you adrinaline. When you are running on four hours, your brain sences the need for energy. Don't stay up late every night. Your stress levels will shoot through the roof. Sleep late on the weekends to refuel your tank for school.

I was having alot of anxiety before sleeping and could not fall asleep. Had many many sleepless nights.
I was just playing with the program one afternoon and wanted to listen to the Power Nap track. Next thing I knew I was waking up! Fell right asleep without trying. After using the Fall Asleep track, I could fall asleep right away. But I didn't realize that I shouldn't be using that one all night. Switched to Whole Night and have been using it ever since.
I can go to sleep with ease now. I just lay and listen to the sounds and next thing I know I am waking up from a nice sleep. I don't suffer from lack of sleep anymore. I keep an IPod with earbuds next to my bed and take it ALWAYS when traveling. The earbuds help block out ambient noise and the sleep tracks keep me sleeping sound :)
Reboot your brain & sleep soundly again?

Use time on the bus to accomplish a little artwork. finding on the time of the holiday and your velocity you may desire to scratch off 10, or 20 minutes off the time at abode. To sense rested some concepts are to once you pass to sleep to establish you get as plenty sleep as you could in that 7 hours. So i.e. in case you're gunna pass to mattress at at 12am then turn off the television, radio, pc, bright lighting fixtures fixtures etc at approximately 10:30pm that way you heavily isn't so inspired once you pass to sleep, and would nod off swifter:)

People of different ages need different hours of sleep,
they say the older you get the less sleep you need. I for one feel like you, yet my children can sleep8 hours and still need more to feel rested. Sometimes it has to do with your sleep patterns and what your body is used to.

If you sleep more than you need, your body gets stiff and you wake out of synch with your REM cycle.

the more you sleep the worse it gets. you should only sleep 7-9 hrs. If you sleep more, that is energy wasted.
