it is never good to lie!

Sometimes you have to consider the greater good. If a person is morbidly obese and asks you if they are too fat. You might hurt their feelings because you said yes, but you also may cause them to seek help and change their eating habits so they will live longer. If someone ask you wither you should wear this dress or that dress, does the color make me look fat, thin, cheap, etc. then the problem is something else. When a woman ask you a question like that, there is a 90% chance of you getting it wrong. Ah, the laws of probability and physics say it is 50%, but they do not take into consideration that you are communication with a woman. Not only do you have to give the right answer, but you have to smile, and you have to deliver it in a fashion so it is believable and you have to .... etc.... You learn that when your opinion is asked, you need to give your opinion and take the consequences. If she says, "Do I look better in this?" It is best to avoid the question. What ever you were, you make it look good. Anything you wear is not worthy of such a flower. It is a guys way of saying, I love you honey and I focus on your happiness. But if you loved me half as much as I love you, why would you ask me these questions that could lead to an argument over something so superficial. Under these circumstances, it is expected for a man to lie like a dog.

No. You shouldn't lie anyway, but it should never be done when you know before hand that it is going to hurt another person. You wouldn't want someone to lie about you.

I don't lie. It's a bad habit. I don't trust liars either. Lying just complicates life. You have to keep track of them all and they often get out of control. The truth always comes out sooner or later. Why would you lie to hurt someone? Are you just mean? Some people seem to like lying. I try to avoid people like that.

"Hey scar! Pardner, it's NEVER right to lie! Of course, we've all got to deal with um'. Lots of people do it. Politicians, Bankers, Economists, Scientists, Advertizers, Insurance Salesmen, Auto Mechanics, Merchandisers, the Religious, Athletes, Men and Women.
I bet your question could mean, "how can we tell when someone is lying to us?"
Answer: When their mouth moves!
P.S. Don't hurt anybody.

I have always felt that when someone lies to me it is a direct insult to my intelligence even if the lie is small or trivial in nature. I feel completely offended that the liar thinks or believes that they can decieve me and that I am not intelligent enough to know any better and I will be helpless as they rob me of my ability to make well informed decisions.

(1) Lying is a perversion of the natural faculty of speech, the natural end of which is to communicate the thoughts of the speaker.

(2) When one lies, one undermines trust in society.

(3) When one lies, one uses the humanity of another person as a mere means to one's end -- one bypasses the person's rationality and in effect makes a decision for the other person, instead of allowing the other person to use her/his own rationality and make her/his own decision.

(4) When one lies, one uses humanity in oneself as a mere means to one's ends.

Lying is immoral. When you lie you are robbing people of their choices. It is impossible to make a good well informed decision when you have been lied too. How many Americans believed there were WMD in Iraq and went along with the war and supported the Bush Administration only to find out that we were deceived. Those people were robbed of the ability to make a free decision because of the deception perpetrated by the government. How many of you now feel guilty? feel responsible for those innocent deaths of Iraqi women and children and the thousands of American men and women who died serving in Iraq because you made the wrong decision even though it was not your fault and you were lied too the guilt and shame of the lie is still there.

How many people have been lied to by a friend or lover only to find out that this person was not at all what they seem because all along they pretended to be something they were not for alterior motives. You were also robbed of your opportunity to make a good decision in this manner and though it's not your fault you still can feel guilty for allowing yourself to be decieved. You should have known better...you should have seen the signs...ect. ect. ect. Lying is always wrong and though you might be excusing your lie by saying...this won't hurt anyone or it's just a little lie...you never know how a lie could effect someone so you shouldn't lie. Lying is the equivalent of stealing and oppression and there is no question that those things are immoral.

No - I have, on a very few occasions, lied (well, white-lied - i.e. not big ones!) to save someone's feelings - but have never, ever, lied to hurt anyone. Why would anyone???

But - did you really meant to say "Is it right to lie even when you know the truth would hurt someone"?

No, it isn't right, especially if it is going to hurt someone. Do you believe in Karma? What goes around comes around. You should always think about the consequences before you act and ask God for the strength to resist temptation.

Some people lie to save themselves from trouble, but many people believe, "What they don't know won't hurt them."
