How are we losing our democracy? Also, the military is all volunteer--it is not and will not become mandatory service. People keep forgetting that we're fighting this war because we were attacked on 9/11, terrorists are out to kill us all if we don't do anything about it. It's the truth, they want us all dead and they'll do anything for it to happen. We're spreading democracy in Iraq so they don't have to suffer with the awful regime they previously had with Saddam Hussein. By the way, Saddam Husein supported Al Qaeda's cause and funded them with tons of money and stuff. He also had biological and checmical weapons, it's a fact. Not only that, but Iraq is full of terrorists against us.
To the user yoyolofi, how is Bush gaining anything really by sending troops to war; in your eyes at least? I admire Bush because he fights for what he believes in, despite ignorant Americans who think that the war is for oil and all that crap. He fights for what is right despite the public's idiocy. He has been losing lots of support because of what he is doing, but it is for a greater cause. Hopefully one day Americans will realize this and not have the ridiculous claim that by sending our troops home it will solve everything and that the threat of terrorists will suddenly dissapear into thin air.

The Spanish-American war marked the first time in history that the U.S. fought a war on foreign soil for the purpose of spreading freedom in the western hemisphere.
It also marked the beginning of American imperialism.
Spreading democracy is the currency of choice that the government uses to acquire more influence in the world. More markets, more trade, more money.
The only difference was that at the time of the Spanish-American war, government officials themselves would leave their positions, i.e. Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Teddy Roosevelt) and Secretary of War (Henry Stimson) and pick up a gun to join the fight themselves.
But they were not completely altruistic, they were well rewarded for their service.
Today, it is no longer necessary for them to fight their own wars. They are solely occupied with the war booty.

seem, i imagine Bush is a moron, and that i oppose very almost all of his guidelines. even with the undeniable fact that, he's not a dictator. Bush became (extra or a lot less) elected and (truthfully) re-elected as Commander-In-chief of the U. S. militia. He has each constitutional precise to do each little thing he's executed militarily, except per chance misinform the Congress about his purpose for doing so. to point that he's a dictator in ordinary words shows that you do not realize what a dictator extremely is. His own get mutually became defeated contained in the most present day election - that would not ensue in dictatorships.

Most people wouldn't recognize a democracy if it snuck up behind them and sneezed. Please bear in mind that America is a FEDERAL REPUBLIC - - - the President is elected by an electoral system not direct vote. In Congress every State is entitled to Two Senators irregardless of their population. In theory it was Democracy that put members of Hezbollah in office in Lebanon. No matter what 'the people' might want, major corporations pay out millions to influence how Senators & Represenatives Vote. Geo W is doing what it takes to make Haliburton and other such companies Rich since his pension portfolio is funded by the people who put him in power. Oh, and despite what you may have heard - - - Geo W did not win in 2000, The Supreme Court dubbed him Emperor - - - that is not Democracy in Action, that is the action of an Oligarchy. A select Cabal of Powerful People who are than willing to let millions of Americans believe they have a say in the process. Peace.

First off, we don't live in a democracy. We live in a Democratic Republic. The system of checks and balances exist in a Republic so that no one branch can take over. Although the judiciary branch has crossed the line by making law, overall no one branch will cause us to "lose or democracy."
Secondly, we support human rights. Besides violations of UN resolutions dating back 16 years, Saddam's government trampled on its own people. No women's rights, or education. People executed on a whim, and poison gas used on the Kurds. Don't be fooled by media either left or right. Look at the facts. Look at the repeated treaty and UN resolution violations going back for years. WMD? Please, that's not why. That was just more stuff in the file already building.
Thirdly, we have no POWs, they are detainees kept within guidlines of the international securities treaties as well as under the counsel of the international red cross. When the terrorists take our troops they freakin behead them, what treaty is that in???

Has the president asked YOU to join the military? Of course not, because joining isn't mandatory like it is in a lot of other countries. The people who enlist do it because they believe in what is happening, and recognize the importance of democracy. My son is one of those people. And, if I had to ask you to list five ways your life is different than it was 8 years ago I'll bet all that much hasn't changed. And, if it has, I doubt it's because of any president.

Neddie, America is a Republic actually. To answer your question, Yes!
The more Freedoms we give up, the closer we get to being like the countries Bush is trying to spread Democracy in.
Look up the word "Terrosism" in the dictionary. (Remember, Al Qaeda is NOT a Government, but Bush leads one.) Check it out.

Yeah, and he says we can't pull out of Iraq because that would dishonor those servicemen who've already died....Huh? You know, the conservatives have a saying about not throwing good money after bad money but it seems they have no problem throwing good lives to die on top of the already dead.
I wouldn't even call Bush a conservative. Just an idiot.

We have no right trying to impose our way of life in any other county. We were attacked by no-one from Iraq, and although Hussain was a tyrant, obviously he knew how to control the factions in Iraq. All we did was begin a festering wound which spreads, not heals.
