That hardly seems like enough. I get 500 at least. Fortunately, Yahoo mail catches 99% of them.

You somehow got on a spam list. When a spammer or a spam list maker gets your e-mail address you could get hundreds of spam messages. The spam list making people just go out and try to find as many e-mail addresses as they can from numerous places, sometimes they just guess them, other times they look on websites for e-mail addresses. If your e-mail address got onto a spam list it could be given to thousands of spammers who will probably spam you. There isn't much you can do to stop that process, once they get your e-mail address and put it on the list it is out there. Most e-mail programs do a good job at catching the spam and either putting it into a spam folder or deleting it.
If you still get a lot of spam that passes through your e-mail program spam blocker then you could buy one or you can change your e-mail address, or you can live with it until it gets so out of control that you can't work efficiently. Then maybe change your e-mail address or buy spam control software.

SPAM is horrible stuff. you can safeguard yourself by creating an alias account that you use for signing up for services... a lot of spammers use co registration and affiliate signups to get your address then they just keep sending crap... I got 7 emails this weekeing from nigeria telling me I won the lottery (how lucky) am the last surviving heir to the barrister etc etc.
There is a really cool service called temporary inbox... (i think the website is temporaryinbox.com or something).. you can search the internet to find it... it lets you create a temporary email address that lasts for 6 hours...that way you can confirm stuff and get access to things without ever giving out your real email address.... If you use fireox there is a plugin that lets you just click on button to create the email address....
a safe way to keep spammers away is to never give out your actual email address.. I create aliases at all the free sites... hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc... and then based whether i want o be contacted or not I will use one of the emails... hotmail (never want to respond) gmail (might respond) and yahoo - for friends only...
it works for me... but in summation spam sucks...

Reporting spam doesn't always work. Do you have an anti-spyware program? It will help to cut down on some of the spammers but unfortunately they'll still be finding they're way to your mailbox. Be careful about taking surveys and watch out for those pop-ups!

I'm pretty used to that problem, but usually when your order things online or when you sign in onto various sites, your e-mail address travels onto those websites as well as sponsors, that that causes some, whereas most span comes from the fact that e-mail addresses are obtained through spyware and appear on mailing lists for the most randomest of things. Usually being obscene things or scams.

Same thing with so many users. Moreover blocking doesn't help because then the mail comes from other ID. The mails seem to be coming auto-generated. Just delete them.
I have found more information at http://tinyurl.com/nnv9f on how email works and how to troubleshoot email related problems.

They got you.
You may have signed up at some site that gave your email out to about a thousand lecherous bastards who are now bombarding you.
You have the right to insist on unsubscribe usually at the bottom of the email.
That only works if they are honest. If they aren't they will take you off the list and give your email to others
Just report them to SPAM@UCE.GOV

There could many reasons as to why you receive so many spam emails. I would recommend you installing some sort of spam filter such as Norton Antispam, McAfee Spamkiller, etc. Most of these applications offer plugins for well-known email clients such as Microsoft Outlook, etc

Most of it are mails distributed to random emails using spam.
Others use softwares that enable to distribute to all friends list of one recipent. Therefore being distributed to their friends and their friends and etc...
Others are sent through cookies. When you visit websites on the net, they use ip protocols and they log it into their system. They can send mails through stored ip addresses.
Using all those... it is normal to get 100+ a day if you haven't blocked random mails.

I have used the free Yahoo mail for years and I have never heard about any limits on how many emails you can send, however, there is a limit on the files you can send, but that is by size...10 MB
