Genuine Ipods will NOT come from China as they are made by Apple Corp. and Apple is a not a Chinese company. Apple limits their sale to companies in their distribution network.

I have purchased several MP3 players from eBay. They come from all over Asia and their prices keep on coming down as the price of flash memory goes down. The quality of the no-name MP3 players is ok . They have many features such as FM radio, voice recorder and also operate as a "thumb drive" to store files.

The sound quality is good. They operate for a long time on one AAA battery - longer then a hard drive based player will run. They also come in all sorts of varieties such as built into sunglasses, a player that transmits to any FM radio, with video, etc.

The flash memory players are better in one way because they are not affected by things such as jogging or other activities where the player can receive a bump.
Ipods are fine as long as you keep them charged up and don't subject them to shock - especially while it is playing.

It's real easy to crash the heads of the hard drive in an Ipod.

A one gig flash player will hold over 16 hours of music at 1mb/minute.

A word of warning about buying one of these: If you break it, it's your problem.
A reputable seller will generally replace something that doesn't work for 30 days. For instance, if it doesn't work when you get it, they will replace it but, if you bend the USB connector so that it doesn't work, they will generally not replace it. Some of the sellers have a warranty, it is not a bad investment but can take a long time to get your refund/replacement. Other less reputable sellers will send you their "30 seconds/30 feet out of their driveway" warranty and say SORRY, no matter what the problem is.

In general, I'd say go buy one but remember, the prices for the item you buy will be lower 3 months later.

My son bought one of those small play station things from Hong Kong via ebay and he had no problems. Has the person got a rating? if they are regular sellers they will have feedback from other buyers which is a pretty good measure of whether they are reputable or not
