It really depends on how much cash your willing to fork-over. iPods are definetly overrated(in my opinion). The more space (Gb's), the more $$$, a good player with about 5gb, will set you back an easy $130.

Personally, I have a Creative Zen MicroPhoto 8gb-$180,eek-, but I love it! Store around 4000 songs, and 1000 pictures. Color OLCD screen (new generation LCD lights, brilliant color!), great sound quality, playlist capability, Window's Media capability, adjustable-sencitive touchpad, photo slideshows, FM radio, organizer, great battery life. I used my old mp3 everyday, and it just couldnt do what i wanted. My Creative is amazing. I love everything about it, but one thing(minor flaw), theres no way to play music while viewing your pictures. Oh well...

The COLOR OLCD screen is amazing. I take pictures of everything and put them on my player, and actaully can choose my background (my own photo, which is vibrant and colorful), it comes out in full color and vibrance on the player. However the 2½" screen isnt the best viewing method, its still amazes! There are also multiple color schemes to choose from to accent your players functions, headings, and songs.

The touchpad, if not used to, can be frusterating at times, but I got the hang of it in no time. Theres also 3 setting you can personalize it to.

It locks to prevent and skipping if and while in your pocket.

Its very thin, about 3/5".

I definately recommend it for -a slighty more expensive- player. But once again, this player is built for the more expirenced consumer in electronics. Not that the software is complicated or anything, but the play has many advanced features for the novice techno-wiz.

A less expensive player is anything from Rio, or a Dell pocket player.

mp3 players come in all sizes and have a variety of functions. It all depends on what you want to use it for.If it is for use while exercising or jogging i would suggest a flash memory player, they are usually small and range around 1-4 gigabytes(they hold around 200 to 800 songs ), the creative Zen V plus, samsung YH-Z5, or iriver Clix is a good example of this , they even have a built in fm radio and voice recorder.
If you need an mp3 player while you travel or listening around the house and would like video as well you need a hard drive mp3 player.A good example would be the creative zen vision:m.It has a 30 gigabyte hard drive and has a nice 2.5 inch high colour video display. It plays music, videos, built in fm radio and voice recorder.its compact enough for you to slip in a pocket or purse.
All mp3 players come with software so you can convert your cd's
to mp3's and transfer them to your player, this is the best way to get music. i would not advise downloading music from music store such as itunes becuase they use "DRM"s which are locks on the music files that limit the number of players that can use that file,if you have more than one mp3 player you maybe have to purchase the song twice.good luck in your hunt for a good music player
