I've used that little trick before. I would only use it as a last resort. Not only does it dry the zit out, but the skin too. So it looks nasty around the zit. You should use Aloette's Acne cream. It works awesomely! I can't believe how well, but it really does.

Unfortunately the toothpaste for zits thing is just "snake oil" It doesn't work but you smell all minty.

the mint in toothpaste acts as an anti-inflammatory (no redness!) and the paste itself draws the oil out, if you leave it on overnight.
clay masks work even better though, if you want to know the truth.
