When I bought my truck, the transmisson fluid was over full by quite a bit. I was told that my diaphram in the modulator valve had slipped, so I went and bought a new one and replaced it. Now that it's replaced, it still wont go into gear. What else could be the problem..?

It's an '81 Chevy with a rebuilt tranny. I drove it for about 1 or 2 weeks with the over full transmission fluid. It stopped going into gear while I was driving, and when I stopped at a stop sign, it wouldn't move after that. The outside linkage looks fine..but it just wont go into gear.

unfortunate! When the diaphragm was bad sucking fluid into the engine, the line pressure was high so if the truck moved at all on the worn out clutches it was because of this higher pressure to apply the clutches. Remove the automatic transmission and take it to a rebuilder or automatic transmission shop. Bad modulator drained the transmission and burn out the clutch packs. And because low and reverse have to use the same burnt out clutch it won't even move backward.

I agree with the first answer. It's probably a problem with your linkage between the shift lever and the tranny. Either it's loose, broken, or needs some TLC.

Are you your own mechanic? If so then it is time to spend the $ and get the mechanic's manuals for your truck. If not, you might want to see if the person that sold you the truck will buy it back since it wasn't working when you bought it and still isn't. (you didn't buy it as is where is did you). It sounds like time to reach into the wallet and pay the piper. Caveat emptor!

Flush it out and positioned new fluid in it.... if there is even any fluid in it in any respect? that could want to reason an issue.. so per chance you ought to study that.. if it really is comprehensive i advise you're taking to a mechanic and characteristic them seem on the tranny.. will be shot already or poorly rebuilt.
