I hear that putting toothpaste on pimples/zits/acne gets rid of them? Is that true? If so, why and how? Is it safe?

That probably would be a bad idea, my expectation is that it would irritate and damage the skin, the extent of which would depend on the brand of toothpaste.

The following things are safe and helpful:

1) Washing the skin using a fresh clean washcloth and a mild liquid soap (solid bars of soap tend to sit around and get contaminated with bacteria). Try this twice a day.

2) Make certain to have clean pillow cases so as not to pick up bacteria. Also, be aware and refrain from touching things in public like doors, walls, desks, ect and then touching your face, as you could pick up nasty bacteria.

As I have told my high school age daughter, the bacteria in schools that cause acne have been spread around there ever since the first day of class when the school first opened.

3) As long as you are not allergic, try a 5% benzoyl peroxide lotion like Oxy 5. I would not start with the 10% product as people usually have to get use to the product first.

4) My daughter watched a fashion makeover show on TV, which suggested adding Salmon to the diet (Because of mercury concerns at most once a week). It really seems to work, I do not know if it is the Vitamin A or the omega fatty acids, but at least for her it worked.

Canned Salmon is cheap (from $1.50 to $3.00 a can). Use plenty of parsley in any recipe, it really helps with the taste. One recipe for baking is:

1) Open can, use a fork to remove the bones, add a couple tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 tablespoonful of Lemon Juice, 2 tablespoonfuls of parsley, and about 1 tablespoonful of vegetable oil (corn, peanut, or canola).

Bake in a covered dish at 350 F for about 1/2 hour.

You also can canned salmon, but need bread, stove top stuffing or something else to help it bind together.
