A "canker sore" or "apthous ulcer" inside the mouth is NOT herpes. See the site below for a very thorough discussion of what canker sores are.
A "cold sore" on the lip would be herpes.

Ok...lol...first off...Herpes and Cankersores are not from the same virus. That my friends, is a cold sore. Herpes Simplex 1 is what causes cold sores; whoever thought that II was is wrong, that is the genital sores virus. Now, on that note....cankersores are little ulcers that form in your mouth...they are medically known as aphthous ulcers. They occur more often in women and may be genetic. Changing your touthpaste or laying off foods that are high in acid (oranges, tomatoes, fruit juices..etc) may help. You can also gargle warm salt water to help with the sore. They are not contagious and are NOT an STD. If you have recurrent ones, you can talk to a doctor and they may be able to help.

It's a nasty little, but seeming harmless, temporary infection on your gums (in your mouth!) Just a little white bump, that makes it difficult for you to eat or speak. It usually goes away within a week .

its "canckersore". its a little sore spot in ur mouth,not serious,everyone gets them occasionally. i am an ex-nurse,ur other responders are incorrect. a canckersore is a small,benign sore in the mouth. it is not herpes.herpes sores are larger sores around the lips,caused by the herpes virus,commonly referred to as "cold sores". cancker sores are annoying,but not contagious,herpes (coldsores) are Very contagious.there is a difference.
