Designate n=larger no., x=smaller no. So...n=12+x and x + 2n = 39
x + 2(12 + x) = 39
x + 24 + 2x = 39
3x + 24 = 39
Now subtract 24 from both sides,
3x = 15, x=5, and n=17.
Then check work!
