Bought this washer on 7/15/2001 - with no extended warranty.
Model: MAV6000AWW

While the washer was running, I opened the lid to add one of my left out cloth to it. Since then the washer has stopped working.

Checked the lid connection. It seems to be ok.

Not sure where the problem is. Any suggestions will be welcome!

That happened to my former Mother-in-law. The repairman sprayed WD-40 into the little hole at the top of the washer where the washer and lid meet when the lid is closed. Look for a plastic thingy hanging down from the lid. It's supposed to make something 'catch' in that hole.

Dirt and grime and crap get trapped in there. Spray a little WD-40 or silicone in it.

Hope that solves the problem.

It is highly likely that when you opened the lid the internal fuse in the lid switch assembly went out. You need to replace the lid switch assembly part number 22001967.

There are several points to check.
Jump the lid switch and see if the switch has failed. Next you should check the cycle timer for proper connections to ensure electricity is getting to the motor........lastly see if there is a motor starting switch on the motor that is sticking..........if all of these fail call the Maytag man he is always lonely you know.

Have you tried your circuit breaker? Also, if you can hear a sound like it is getting electricity, turn the dial to the off position, reach in and give the spindle a half turn in each direction. If that does not work, you may have a slipped belt.
