Goth is a style and it doesn't matter if you let your child be Goth or not, they are going to do what they want to but if you notice, it is usually and unhappy child that dresses that way. They say it is a form of expression but a lot of times, they are making the best of what they have. They can't afford nice new clothes so they take old stuff and turn it into something.
It is also usually a child who is having trouble in school, they may have learning disabilities and no one care enough to recognize it until the child starts to take things into their own hands.
Instead of trying to make a child dress the way you want them to, try to make sure they are happy. Give them good values and set a good example but most of all give them a lot of love no matter what they do or how they dress.

99% of the time, it has nothing to do with devil worship at all. Actually, most goths I know are either Christian or Pagan (which means they don't even believe in the devil) or atheist. It's a style that some people find beautiful and is a form of self-expression. Dark and evil are not one and the same; because someone is a little dark does not by any means make them a bad person nor do they wish to harm themselves or others. Most goths/punks I know and knew were very nice and good people. I would let my kids be goth because that's how I was as a teen and I wouldn't put a certain age to it- if they were to be interested in it, then I'd let them do it.

Depends on how big of a community you live in. The larger the community, the more of a certain type of people you will find (ie gothic). In a small town, "gothic" primarily means dressing in black. In the city however, it gets more in depth, due to the competition and etc, so it could mean more, but i really do not know. In the end, do you really want to stifle another's personality, or how they feel? I don't think that what someone wears is really that important compared to the types of problems we all face everyday (what is inside IS important). However, if my child wanted to worship the devil (a separate sect from gothic entirely) I would laugh at them and tell them it is a total sham. If you are worshiping the devil, it is because you want attention. Why would someone worship that which is the arch nemesis of all that is "good and true". I am not religious, but if a person does not believe in God, how can there be a Satan?

Goth I'm sure started as a devil worship, and then the kids just thought it would be a cool style to adapt. I don't think "letting" your kid go goth is an option, though. If they do it is because of their attitude towards life, and whether or not that is a problem may be something you'd want to discuss with him/her. It may just be a phase, lotsa kids have gone through it.

it has nothing to do with the devil it has to do with dark moody teen ages trying to find a group to fit into. I was more into punk as a teen personally i think GOTH is lame. I'll let my kids be who they are. Punk use to be more LIFESTYLE now it's just style most kidies with blue Mohawks don't even know what punk is they just wanna look cool. I'm sure some GOTHS ARE into the whole lifestyle behind it then you have your weekend GOTHS that play dress up and paint THERE NAILS black in reality are clueless they just wanna shock mommy and daddy.

It really depends. I don't think it is devil worship, but I wouldn't let my child be one just because they think it's cool or they want to be different, thus being the same or whatever. They'll regret it if they're anything like me. Sometimes I think people try too hard to be Gothic and miss out on stuff. Same with every other stereotype though. If my child really wanted to and presented a good argument, I'd probably let them. Or if they just wanted to wear clothes, yeah sure whatever. But I'd be upset if they tried changing their personality to match what they wear.

Dressing in black, painting your finger nails and wearing dark make up is not devil worship. If they're actually worshipping the devil, then that's devil worship. If my child wanted to dress like that, I'd let them express themselves that way at whatever age they were able to buy their own goth makeup/accessories.

Goth is really just a music scene like punk or metal. Let them be what they want to be at whatever age, it will encourage them to be more open with you in the future.
