Try some 1/10 oz. gold coins. They'll always be worth something, especially if something drastic happens with the economy. You can check monex.com to keep an eye on the fluctuating gold prices (like the stock market). Easy to liquidate, too.

What about stamps? Or there's coins, bugs, foreign knick-knacks, pens . . . the list is pretty much endless! I collect coins, myself. I have a 10-cent piece from Hong Kong, a Euro, and several Bi-Centennial Quarters. Have fun!!

anything with your states name on it, is a pretty popular thing to do. shot glasses especially are a big winner.

if you travel, pick out things that you see everywhere you go. But, those things have to be something that are different, too like rocks. they come in different shapes, sizes and colors. =)
