Americans are known for their practical nature, their "can-do" spirit. If something doesn't work, we fix it, or toss it out. So why not just say that the idea seemed good at the time, but now it just hasn't worked out, and we had better leave. If we just explained this to the Arab world, they would understand, and they would actually agree with us. Democracy cannot be planted in Islamic soil.

I don't think we can just leave Iraq. I think what we need to do is:
1) Admit we screwed things up, up to this point.
2) Define a new plan that we believe is going to work and start correcting our mistakes.

I disagree with you. Iraq is looking a lot better now, actually. And things are looking good for the US, security wise. We haven't had a single terrorist attack on our soil since 9/11 because of what we carried out to prevent further terrorist attacks; which was the war in Iraq. We took Saddam Hussein out of power in Iraq which restored lots of order in Iraq and also removed him as a world threat. Not only that, but it has been proven that Saddam supported Al Qaeda and provided them with money and other funds in their "quest" to destroy America. He also was found to have chemical and biological weapons in his posession. Another thing, we removed Zarqawi from power as well (you remember that from the news, right?). Also, as reported by the Office of the Coordinator for Counter terrorism, there has been a 42% reduction in terrorism. It will take lots of reform and a lot more work to bring true democracy to the people of Iraq, but it can be done. And planting a democracy in Iraq will also put Iraq into order and reduce terrorism.

I just wish that the American people would realize this and not be so impatient with the war. They think that sending our troops home will remove the threat of terrorism, but that is simply ridiculous. The only way to reduce terrorism is through this venue. The threat will always be there, and by removing ourselves from the Middle East the threat will be on our doorstep and another 9/11, or even worse, is inevitable.

I agree that we need to leave Iraq. We should be concentrating on protecting our home turf and I'd rather they put their energy into capturing bin Laden once and for all. Bush would see leaving as defeat, however. We can only hope our next President (Democrat or Republican) understands the big picture and represents the best interests of the U.S.

What do you mean it hasn't worked....It's better to fight the terrorists in Iraq than fight them in NYC...Think about it.
