Every state in the US requires training and licensing to drive an auto, among a long list of other more trivial things, with no mandatory training to care for another human life. Go to the hospital, here's your baby, now you can go home. Have fun, Good luck.
Other family members are not always available or reliable.

In theory it seems like a good idea, however it's a lot easier and cheaper to become pregnant than it is to buy a car. I suppose you could make the training mandatory and if the mother didn't comply, take the child away. There are still a lot of at home births that woulnd't be accounted for, not to mention how much money this would cost the government. You couldn't have the mother pay for it.

You know I've wanted something like this forever. Parents who abuse their kids should be sterilized too, but alas, it's not my world to rule as I like. I do think it would be a plausible idea in this country to mandate child rearing classes. Having a child is the toughest job you'll ever have and we shouldn't let just anyone attempt it without the proper training.

hmm every state licenses drivers and unlicenses them.i was unlicensed several times. who are the other 80,000,000 other bad drivers out there, do they have a license? child care is licensed and so are most public school teachers. it is a fact that child abusers gravitate to those fields.
do you really want to be told how to raise children by the state? ever do your own taxes? love those instructions lmao

That's a thought...I wonder who would get to do the "driver's" test? And do Gynecologists start being referred to as inspection stations?
