Depends on what type of shows and what the show purpose is.
All the shows I attended are legit. It depends on the owner's motive of being at the show. Whether to win the stakes (high placing) or to auction off their animal.
I shown horses. If the horse is being abused, it is due to the owner, not the show situation itself. Whether showing or not. It is sad and that is why the rules and regulations are being more and more strict now. Drug testing before prior to entry and after if win high placing (1st-Championship etc).
No doubt abuse is going on at some point. However, hopefully it is found and stop.

How is rabbit showing seen as abuse ? Please explain why you feel this way....If anything its educational, it gets the word out about different breeds & proper care and condition of rabbits. People that show rabbits ( especially in ARBA shows, I am not talking about 4H rabbit showing) take better care of their animals than most people...
DOGGIEBIKE, you are very wrong, a good breeder also breeds for disposition...you could have the best looking animal but what does that matter if its an agressive animal ?? Dont make assumptions about all breeders....there are back yard breeders and there are responsible breeders, make sure you know the difference before making ASSUmptions

I don't know anything about rabbit showing, but I know several dog owners that show their dogs and they take pride in what they do. The would never abuse their animals. I'm sure there are are a few here and there that get abused, but that will happen anywhere. The majority of them love their dogs and take pride in their care. They spend a lot of money on these animals, they're going to take care of them.

I show rats in my club and i dont think its abusive at all. We have carry and display cages for the rats and they are not harmed. I dont really like cat shows, I dont think the owners care enough about them otherwise they wouldnt show them. I went to a cat show as part of a animal course i was doing and all the cats looked scared. I asked one of the owners how you get your cat used to the show and they just said they put them in a cage and take them to the show and they will get used to it. So i really dont think cat shows are good for the animal at all.
Rat shows we have lots of fun with the animals, we have a table set up in a corner where the rats can play together (not different sexs together though only same sex rats) and they are watched by the owners and if there is a fight the animal can be removed right away.

Animals love attention! The petting and grooming and all the making over them is something they love. In anything there could be people who abuse but most people who take the time and money to show animals take pride in them and love them. And the animals return that love.

It's not the showing, but the breeding that bothers me. They breed only for looks. Disposition doesn't even matter.
