I agree with you. If a celebrity abuses his/her entertainment platform by using it to pontificate (almost always with no qualifications whatsoever) on unrelated matters, I'm inclined to vote with my feet, and my wallet, by not supporting their bad habits.
Obviously, I'm much more inclined to do so if I disagree with what they say. But I wish they'd all just shut up and sing/play/act/model/whatever, and get over the notion that their fame makes them qualified spokespersons.
Absolutely, all of these folks are entitled, by both the First Amendment and good manners, to their opinions. And they should air them appropriately. If I buy concert tickets, I'm not buying political pontification tickets, and would consider that inclusion to be nothing less than fraud.

Johnny has said that he loves America and is very grateful for all the opportunities he's been given here, and for the right to be able to have differing opinions than those in office. He has houses in America and in France, and also in other locations. His children often travel with him and are fortunate to be able to see the world. However, if they spend the majority of their time outside America, usually in France, it is because their mother is a French citizen and lives and cares for them there.
Also, he is trying to protect them from the limelight and paparazzi and rumors and hype that is rampant in America. He chose his life and accepts that as some of the consequences - but they didn't choose it and shouldn't have their lives spread out for the world to see.
But, your personal attack on him aside, yes, you do have the right to choose how you spend your money, and if you chose not to put it into areas where people you disagree with might benefit from it that is your right.
Just like Johnny, Natalie, Emily, and Martie have their rights.

I think that the biggest part is that people really don't care that much about Depp (or whatever), so if he does something then it does not bug them at all. And yes you do have the right to not give them money because you don't like them. And also self-respecting Americans would rather focus on America things than what a celebrity was doing.

See, that is the wonderful thing about freedom of speech....you have your own opinion and you can do what you want. The Dixie Chicks were persecuted for their own opinions and in sence had thier Freedom of Speech taken from them. They had every right to say what they wanted to. They were crucified by the public and the press. Shame on Americans for doing that. Johnny Depp claims that the statements that he allegedly said were taken out of context. He apologized and he is also entitled to say what he wants.
There are many foriegners that come here for freedom and bash our country, our government and so forth. They say that it was better where they came from...yet here they are. Are we to take that right from them too, because they think thier country is better. Who are we to say what is right when it comes to our opinions.
You go on not giving up your money to what you believe in and I will support you on that, If you change your mind....I'll support you on that too.....the fact is, it is your opinion. Just don't ever tell my mine is wrong (because it is my opinion) and I have the freedom to voice it.

You have a right not to support people and industries you don't agree with, just like I have a right not to support people and industries I don't agree with.
Bash Depp all you want, but don't call me unAmerican when I bash Rush Limbaugh, Pat Robertson, or Britney Spears.
There are 2 places in the US filled with ignorant, vindictive, uninformed people. One is Hollywood. Can you guess what the other is?

Johnny Depp is a great actor and I happily plunk down money to see his movies because they entertain me.
I could care less about his political views.

People can say what they want. One does not have to listen. I don't really like the Dixie Chicks, but I bought their new song from i-Tunes as a symbolic gesture of my support for their right to free speech. So, you see it goes both ways, you keep it or you spend as you see fit.

Because people are going for the intertainment of the movie regardless of who plays in it. It is freedom of speech to say rather you hate or love this country. It is your right to not go to the movie or to not buy the cd.
