I'm trying to decide on the viability of a new home purchase. I think the roof has serious damage and will need complete replacement , soffits, eaves, gutters, etc.; and the entire house will need siding.

A NEW HOME WILL COST YOU AN ARM AND A LEG AND YOU WILL STILL ONLY HAVE A ROOF AND WALLS FOR A HOUSE. IT WOULD BEHOOVE YOU TO SPEND THE MONEY IN REPAIRS , ABOUT $12,000.00, AND YOU WOULD HAVE A HOUSE ALREADY PAID FOR, NO MONTHLY PAYMENTS, AND LOOKING VERY SPIFFY. BE SURE AND BUY THE MATERIAL YOURSELF, GO GET IT YOURSELF, IF POSSIBLE. KEEP A LOG ON THE MEN WORKING THERE(PICTURES), TIME STARTED AND TIME STOPPING WORK. LET THEM KNOW YOU WANT AN ACCOUNT FOR EVERYTHING GOING ON. DON'T EXCEPT SHODDY WORKMANSHIP. IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE JOB, DON'T SIGN THE RELEASE AND DON'T PAY THEM. GO OVER THE CONTRACT AND SEE IF EVERYTHING IS COMPLETE, AND WHAT THEY DIDN'T WORK ON, IS STILL INTACT.
CHECK THEIR ID AND VEHICLE LICENSE PLATES NUMBERS. TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS TO KEEP AN EYE ON THEM.

u need to call a contractor and let him/her bid and control the project.....this way ur not depending on 3 or 4 subs to work together and having to put up with " no the painter will do that or no the roofer does this, so pay me now." sounds like u have a big project so get one company to handle it and make sure u get a copy of the contractor's insurance and building permit before he starts......and by all means, dont give Any money up front! if the contractor doesnt have enough credit and money for at least stage one of project tell him to forget it.......

lic. gen. contractor
