If the dye is going to get on your shoes, it is also going to get on your legs, your socks, and your underoos. Unless your shoes are white suede, I don't see them picking up much dye.

There is a detergent called Synthrapol that traps free dye and washes it out. Or get one of those color catcher sheets from Shout - they look like fabric softener sheets, but you put them in the laundry and they grab the loose dye.
