You have to apply in person for a new one, and after that, about four to six weeks.

You can ask for "expedited service", which costs another $60, and you can have it in two weeks.

You can have an emergency one issued, but as you say, you have to have proof that you're leaving the country in the next two weeks.

I have had a passport issued in a few hours before because mine had expired and I needed to travel overseas for a funeral. While I didn't technically have to prove any of this, they did ask what time I was booked on a flight so that they had a deadline to work to. Other people were also having theirs done in that time to travel for work urgently.

Without any justification for urgent treatment, depends on the country who is issuing the passport. Even with overseas travel tickets booked and a request for urgent service, I could not get my passport back from the UK Home Office when they were renewing my visa (and hence missed my holiday). Suspect they are as shoddy in dealing with passport applications. Most passport authorities will usually not make any guarantees to get things issued in a certain time even if you have travel plans. If it's going to be expensive to miss the trip if you don't get your passport in time, I would not book until you have your passport.

Stop talking about it....go apply for one- the sooner the faster you get your first passport issued. It doesn't take long at all. You gotta get pictures,....not just any picture...they will tell you what kind you need (each country has its own specifications).

What's your hurry? Try explaining to the Government why you have to leave so fast without having firm travel plans...not a good idea nowadays
