He is right. On the same level so is William F Buckely J and even Patrick Buchanan; when you have Buchanan saying they are too far to the right- then you know your party has problems!

OH YEAH! Chuck was right and not "right" at the same time. The Republicans of old were a conservative party. This does not mean Bible-thumping or anti-abortion or anything as far as views are concerned. Conservative literally means "a conservative amount of government in citizens' lives". Liberal, of course, means a liberal amount of government. It's that simple . . . till now, where both parties seem to be government "gardeners" now, growing a bigger and bigger government. (The government is the largest employer in this, a CAPITALIST country!!) Hagel was right that it needs definite trimming (more like "chopping"). The problem, of course, is that nobody wants to kill their golden goose. A job with the government is a "sure thing".
What has to be done is privatization of government entities. This means somebody is going to have to put up the money, administer, take risks, hire and fire, etc. Npbody can front the money, and those that could don't want to or need to take the risk..

Political parties have to change. The qualities of Republicanism are rather obvious now, due to the qualities of the current Commander in Chief, a Repub. But the party is in a difficult position. Bush was re-elected in 2004 largely because it is extremely hard to unseat a wartime president. 2008 is a real problem for Repubs and they know it. They will certainly change. They've got to get some sort of issue they can drum. Look for that issue to emerge in their advertising in 2007. The man is right about what he contends: he knows more about his party than you or I. The Repub. Party is trying to ride a lion now: the "Christian Right" has such power in the party that they must appease the wants of this element, yet it is politically difficult: any legislative effort to outlaw a woman's access to abortion would be the kiss of death. Repubs hope that the judiciary will do the job, because the Supreme Court justices aren't elected.

He is right,

There is a new breed of Republican.
Some of it, not all is based on roves strategies for winning at all cost, and keeping power by any means necessary.

Some of has to do with the fall of communism, most don't get that the Modern Republican party has its roots as a reaction to the Russian Revolution.

The Neo Conservative doesn't care about fiscal anything....or else that trillion dollar deficit would be the first sign that thier policy isn't working.

There are more reasons i can go into, but i'd like everyone to check out a couple of PBS documenataries....

The world is different and requires changes in all things. Keeping the party in the middle of the road is very hard in these times of people acting first and thinking later. Look at the mayhem in the Democratic party caused by the left wing liberals. How a dummy like Michael Moore can give Hillary advise shows how bad the party is suffering. Lieberman was cast aside like yesterdays newspaper despite his great offerings to the party over the last several years. Anyone that is dumb enough to judge someone by one issue endangers our society.

Absolutely correct! The next thing you know, GOP will do exactly to him what they did to, uh I forgot that guy's name back in 2004 election." Another thing is I think someone should just ramp a truck into Russ Limbaugh broadcast tower, so he can't become a bad influencial to Americans who are loyal to their political parties for the last 10 years.

He is a politician. He is saying what ever he can to further his own way. That's what politicians do. they tell you what you want to hear so you will vote for them. So I wouldn't make a big issue out of what he is saying. In the end he is a Republican. Just as Hillery is trying to move to the center doesn't change what she is. A democrat.

He is entitled to his opinions, same as any other American. I understand where he is coming from, but when I observe other parties' policies, I will stick with the Republicans. "Least of the Many Evils" anyone?
