Confused because people speak of the UK so much and don't usually say England? It's because England , Scotland, and Wales are together the United Kingdom and act as one. Just as the United States acts as one....um...sometimes.

oops...i forgot Northern Ireland

What's your definition of a country?

A well defined land area with traditions and history that exists within that area? Then yes.

Or a recognized political entity entering in agreements with other
countries? Then no. (That would be Britain(United Kingdom) of which England is only a portion)

Is this a question from the Bush administration?
Otherwise please go back to school, you might have missed something.
Well I tell you, England is a country as well as Scotland and Welsh. Together with Northern Ireland they are called United Kingdom, but they have a queen. Tricky, isn't it?

Yes. You may hear of it by many names though: Great Britain, the United Kingdom (that actually applies to the group of countries), that country over there that we left, etc.

perfectly valid question man. Everyone that made fun of the question has no idea why you would ask it..... which goes to show they have no knowledge of the differences between, Britain, England and the United Kingdom.
