My friend was attacked by her husband a few days ago. The police came and took him to jail. I called the Police to get the report and they told me they would not give me any information.

Is there any public record of this ? It doesn't even show up in the police log.

I'd like to find out if he's been charged with anything etc.
She is too upset to talk to / think about it right now.
What should I do?

Call the district attorney and explain to them. They should be able to help you out. Does she have a PFA? Protection From Abuse Order - if not she should get one...good luck.

I am not sure what the problem is, are you worried for her safety? If not, then that isn't any of your business anyway. Just be there for your friend and be ready to talk when she is.
If you are worried for her safety, the police dept should know of a place she could go to stay safe. Such as a Haven of Hope. That will not be public information as the whole point is to keep the occupants safe. If she has an out of town relative or friend she could stay with she could do that. If she isn't wanting to disrupt her life she needs to get an order of protection against him and a gun. This way if he comes near her she can shoot him and not be charged. Of course, if she can get the police there first, that is best. If they pick him up after the order of protection is issued, he will have to stay in jail or pay a lot of money. God bless you for being there for your friend and she is in my prayers.

states vary of what she can do about protection order and remain living with the spouse. U personally cant get that info unless ur the victim yes they keep files some are domestic some are registered as criminal - she being a wife and in love all that will most likely file a complaint go to a court hearing get a protection order for now a temp one.. depending on the state.. if she decides to divorce she gets a copy of all battery charges of abuse and if there is a reason to get one the Sargent has to validate the reason and give u permission say shes dead and he killed her then u can get a copy for court etc or a employer who has problems with violence with him etc so u will know whats up soon call her be careful as she may be having no privacy .she will call u when shes ready cannot u call her take her something like cookies to feel her out but suggest to not hang in that house. She may be at a shelter too for hiding or to recoup

Why do you need to know whether or not he's been charged with anything else. Sounds like your trying to be nosy. Be concerned with your friends well being. She'll tell you the information when she gets ready. Your calling the station and stuff, and looking in police logs, come on now. Be a friend. What you should you do? Nothing, unless she asks you.

You have no legal grounds to see the report, so the police have no obligation to let you. A police report isn't necessarily public record the moment it is filed - you may have to wait until the case is resolved in court.

Help your friend get an attorney and support them - anything beyond that is being nosy.

Go to the Court house and pull the arrest records for the day he was arrested. It should be on file there. If not your girl need's to pull herself together and do some searching of her own she will be able to find out more than you with all the new hippa laws.she really needs a restraining order,is he friends with any of the cops? did she seek medical attention?? If not if there is still sign she needs to ,so there is record of it

It may take a week for them to formally charge him with anything. It will be up to the prosecutor to decide if the case is worth pursuing.

They may not be able to give you much information due to all the privacy laws on the books.

He will have a court date where he will appear infront of a judge. The arresting officer will be there as well. Your friend should be there too. He will have his day. Be supportive. She needs to believe in herself that it is NOT her fault!!!! She deserves someone who will love and respect her. No one deserves to be hit. Its abuse!!! It is sooo hard when you love someone and they physically hurt you then you feel that is all you deserve-I know!! Have her get some counsiling and PLEASE don't take him back he Will do it again! Unless he gets some help and counsiling too he will do over and over. Good Luck!! I will pray 4 you and your friend>

I'm disgusted with the police... Ask your friend to give written permission for the report.

it is public record, not a police problem,, go to your county records and look up his name and get a report, the police will not give it to you
