I saw this on brainiac and they said it was iodine crystals and an unknown ingredient. Does anyone know what it is?

Take elemental iodine (NOT the drug store "Tincture of Iodine"). Place in a lab mortar. Cover completely with Technical Grade Ammonia solution (NOT the household cleaner stuff). Using the pestle, mash/mix the iodine, keeping it under the liquid at all times. Continue until all solid iodine is gone, adding more ammonia if needed. You will end up with a purple liquid. This is NOT an explosive. You can "paint" keyholes, hinges, etc. with the liquid, and after it has dried, any friction will result in a small pop and a purple cloud.

My friends and I made it when we were kids. It is called nitrogen tri iodide.
You would do well to avoid explosives. The fellow in New Hampshire that owns the company "Information Unlimited" lost a hand when a schoolboy. He was making home made explosives and didnt know how dangerous it is.

I don't believe this is an appropriate line of inquiry. Give it up.

Do you realy think you should be discussing explosives in a public domain.

Can I have your address please. I know some people who would like to visit you.
