Good to see you are using AVG, rather than Norton/MacAffee.
First check in the options and make sure that it is on, if you cannot turn it back on. Uninstall AVG, then reinstall it.
If this doesnt work you probably have one of the more insidious virii out there that attacks your anti-virus software. I suggest going through the set of steps provided in my first source. Its long yes, but its better than having a virus that wrecks your system.

If after all else fails & reinstalling doesn't work, then
ring AVG on Tel. 016 367 004 96 in UK...speak to sales if you have the free version or tech support if you have AVG PRO. If you have the freebie then tell sales that you were delighted with AVG & you were on the brink of buying AVG PRO for multiple pc's but this problem is causing concern, etc etc.

The reason it is turning it's self off is because you have something other than a virus on your computer & this has curruped your AVG.
You have not given any info on what spyware programs you are using or what Trojan program you are using.
!. download Zonealarm free firewall & use it - dont use microsoft firewall - it's crap.
2. Download counterspy, it's free for a limited time (link below)
3.If AGV does not run OK after uninstall then reinstall.
$. Next time you want help give us more info.
ok
