no it's not okay... i wonder why people do this with produce. you never see people 'sampling' bread, chips, beverages, meat, etc.
stealing is stealing no matter the 'packaging'

Funny thing I just went to the store and bought the smallest bag of grapes and they were over $7 so you can bet I sampled one first.

I have thrown away so much produce that was rotten. You have the right to make sure what you are buying is good.

the only thing I would want to test is the grapes. I have gotten so many bunches of grapes that are bitter. However, I still do not sample them.

It is in the stores best interest to put some samples out, it would alleviate the problem.

not really because if everyone did it there would be a whole lot of empty grape bags and all but then again who buys grapes with out testing them so I guess it is not OK for the store because people doing this all the time they do loose money but OK for the once that buy them so they know they dont buy anything that is no good.

No, it's not actually, but a lot of people do it. If everyone had a grape here and a grape there, the stores would be losing a lot of money because it would add up after awhile.

I see many people trying out grapes and cherries also. But I would never do that in a grocery store because...EGADS, WHO HAS TOUCHED THAT STUFF? No telling how many sick, diseased, cold ridden people have been touching the fruit all day.

Yes if employees are offering it/and maybe something small like a loss grape or cherry. But don't open anything big because that would be considered stealing and we don't want to do that! (smile)

Yes, its the only way you can really tell about the ripeness of most fruit. You don't want your grapes to be too sour, your strawberry's to be bad or your cherries to be too tangy. Produce markets are aware people do that, its human nature.

NO. It is stealing. come on . do people sample just to check the to get an idea about the stuff they wanna buy? i dont believe that.
Its just that they cant stop themselves from having a small bite of the stuff for which they didnt pay and some get a kick outta it.
I think its dishonest.

I sure do want to "sample" it like your examples because you dont want to buy something that looks good but tastes horrible!! Like only a few exceptions of food, like grapes, maybe not fruits bigger than that like apples

Any good quality supermarket will allow it, in extreme moderation. You simply have to know what you are buying. Some produce looks good, but tastes terrible. You should always ask first so it doesn't look as though you are stealing.
