Hey, if most respondents are are bothered, why do we hear such bad English all the time? :) Birf-day bothers me. But once, my friend wrote "Happy Birtday" on a cake and we laughed so hard at the mistake, "Birtday" became a micro cult-favorite word of ours.
My favorites are frigerator, bajamas, prolly, superfaliss (for superfluous) and the Number One....... nucular!

Deeply annoys me.
It's usually not pertaining to the grammatically educated, however, it does pertain to those with lack of normal vernacular (i.e. ghetto people).
Other mispronunciations that go along with birf-day against birthday are:
aks versus ask
dem versus them
chu versus the ending of -t along with you
prolly/probly versus probably
is you versus are you
and a whole bunch of other mispronunciations.
It's a really good thing you brought it up,
because right now the vernacular of the everyday American is spiraling into an abyss.
Hope i answered your question correctly!
:)

Depends on who is saying it. I have heard many children struggle with the word birthday and it doesn't bother me then.

I think you all (except for annie & longneck242002) just need to chill out. What's the big deal? People screw around with words all the time.

i know it seems like a small thing to get hacked off over, and i hope it won't make you completely lose it. i understand it to a degree though ... 'announceiate' really gets to me ... as does 'pis'ghetti which i realise a lot of people find extremely cute.
but in the end, it's not murder.

Very much so. Just like people saying and typing "prolly" when it should be "probably". And replacing "s" with "z". I could make a very long list......

I agree! I can't stand it when people don't speak clearly and correctly! Like people also say Warshington instead of Washington!
