Unless your periods are very regular, you can't know for sure only by calculating. Ovulation always occurs 12-16 days before the first day of the next period (the first day of bleeding). So, if your period is always 28 days long, ovulation will take place between the 12th and the 16th day. If not, it's best to take your temperature every day and use a chart, this way you'll know exactly when you're most fertile. It's a little complicated at the beginning, but once you get used to this method, you'll find it the best one. Look for details online, there are many sites with instructions for taking your temperature and charting it properly. Good luck!

there are several ways to calculate your ovulation. you can do a search online for ovulation calculators, buy ovulation predictor kits, or watch your body. It doesnt necesarily happen at 2 weeks after your period. Not every woman has a 28 day cycle. There are a few great sites out there. mymonthlycycles.com, mommysparadise.com, justmommies.com are a few great sites and they have forums to talk about it with other women going through the same thing you are.

no reason that this should be embarassing. There are a few sites (such a webmd.com) where you put your cycle dates in and it gives you the best dates for conception. (usually its somewhere inbetween periods) Also there are ovulation predictor kits that tell you the best day to "try"
