When you were borrowing and spending it would have been the perfect time to ask this question OF YOURSELF.

I assume when you used the word "you" in your question, you meant to use "I".

Are you asking how you can wiggle out of paying back your debt?

You can get a payment schedule you can live with. Get a part time job and send all of that money to pay on your loan.

Talk to the company which holds your loan. Ask them for a lower payments for an extended amount of time. You will end up paying more in the long run due to interest, but this will help you afford the loan and save you from ruining your credit with late payments.

Well, my sister is in the same situation, her payment is 291.00 a mo, she doesn't work, hasn't worked since 2002. She is thinking of putting it in www.discountdebtsolutions.com so her payments will be lowered and interest rate would be 0%. She has been trying to defer it, but it keeps getting denied. Her husband is military, stationed in Japan, so its hard for her to get a job, then she has 3 kids to put in daycare, so she wouldn't be getting anywhere. Other than that just pay as much as you can and let them know your situation. Never go thru www.XLservicing.com. My sister check them out to consolidate just to see how much she would save and what the interest rate would be, next thing she knew they took over her loan and they are screwing her big time.

You should be able to resolve this matter with the lender. For example, if you write a letter explaining your income and expenses in relation to the student loan repayment, then they WILL work with you.

Talk to the company who did the loan. Many times, they will either defer or forgive all or part of the student loan, based on the circumstances of your situation. You can also ask about reconsolidation, as it may lower your interest rate. If you ask about reconsolidation, make sure to go thru a reputable company, as there are many who will try to scam you. There are two websites below that may help.

why did you borrow so much if you were going to be unable to pay it back...

try consolidating the loan...see if that helps. there are also some options (depending on the loan that you have) that allow you to pay back the loan taking your salary into consideration depending on the income that you make. They take a certain percentage of your earnings instead of a lump sum. good luck and take care.

you can haggle with them as far as the amount that they will accept on a monthly basis, however keep in mind the longer it takes you to repay the interest will be sky high...maybe you can look into a lower interest loan to pay the student loan off

because they supposedly pay a decrease commencing earnings than the personal sector, which in some situations is actual. a lot of my regulation college friends took Federal jobs that said contained in the $40K determination yet would have their $100K+ of loans wiped out after 3-5 years.

Don't listen to bankruptcy man, he has no idea what he is talking about. Do as others have suggested and speak directly with the lender, they will listen and work with you. They want their money and would prefer to lower the payments in lou of you not making any payments. I promise, call and speak with them directly - be honest and they will respond in a kind manner.
