High Tension - GORY!!!!

I'm not sure what type of movies you like but I like the asian horror movies. They don't focus on the blood and gore but focus on atmosphere and suspense. Some of the movies I've enjoyed include Sisters, Ringu (japanese), Infection, The Eye (chinese).

Another movie that I've seen is Life is Beautiful, a drama which won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. I'd definitely recommend that movie too.

I also enjoyed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The House of Flying Daggers and Hero.

"China in the 1920's. After her fathers death, nineteen year old Songlian is forced to marry Chen Zuoqian, the lord of a powerfull family. Fifty year old Chen has already three wives, each of them living in seperate houses within the great castle. The competition between the wives is tough, as their master's attention carries power, status and priviligies. Each night Chen must decide which wife to spend the night with and a red lantern is lit infront of the house of his choice. And each wife schemes and plots to make sure it's hers. However, things get out of hand..."

I agree with what Robobbyta said. Japanese horror movies focus more on suspense and creepiness than on gore. I also liked Ju-On (The Grudge), Ringu (The Ring), Yogen (The Premonition), and Gin Gwai (The Eye)

Run, Lola, Run is also a good movie. It's a German movie in which a girl, Lola, gets a phone call from her money-smuggling boyfriend who tells her he was suppose to deliver a large amount of money to someone but he left it on the subway. If Lola doesn't find a way to come up with the money and get it to her boyfriend within 20 minutes, he'll die. The movie repeats the 20 minute event 3 times and each time, Lola does something different, resulting in a different outcome (similar to Groundhog Day).

Some of the best: Cinema Paradiso; Life is Beautiful; The 7th Seal; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; 400 Blows; Trainspotting

And the greatest of these, in my opinion, is Cinema Paradiso which should be required viewing by anyone who claims to love movies.

I am so excited to see Cinema Paradiso mentioned so many times!!! It is truely a magnificant movie and my favorite.

I would also recommend Like Water for Chocolate (Mexico), The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (Austrialia), Margaret's Musuem (if you consider Canada foreign), and Le Femme Nikita (French...not the tv show).

If you want to see some very un-PC movies by Peter Jackson, try Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles. Cult classics from New Zealand!
