It's a sort of sexism, isn't it? Well a lot of science fiction writing is male dominated and thus their ideas are such. Some men think women are weak. It shows in their writing. Don't think about it too much, it'll drive you insane. Write your own science fiction with women who aren't afraid to break a nail or two.

It has been proven that women are more nurturing than men. Sure, there are women that aren't like that but they go against the norm. So that's a strike against women being the villain in SciFi.

Also, women are usually physically weaker than men so some action sequences in SciFi just can't be pulled off if a women was to do it .

And lastly, what I consider to be the main reason men are usually the villian....the focus group for science fiction/horror movies are young men (I'm not sure of the age group). Men typically don't want to think about a woman kicking their *** so a male villain is more relative to the focus group.

Also, since men are the focus group for science fiction/horror movies, they want to show women in a provacative manner. That's why many of those movies show femae nudity and/or sex scenes where the woman is exposed but the man isn't.

Well it's quite obvious why the men are the bad guys, you see while women are more devious, and cunning, men are jus plain mean. They have no reason for acts of violence, and they don't have that maternal instinct. Women however, are shown to have more pity and sympathy for everyone. Half the time I catch myself saying, "Poor so and so." In chemistry I felt bad for the electrons that didn't have a full shell. And isn't it true that in the movies the good people always win? Women could beat men in a cinch. It's like batman and superman, superman's hot and all, but all his powers are brute strength, batman, however kicks *** with just his brains and lots of money, and he's pretty hot too. It works that way with women and men. Women are smarter, and have better ways to plot than men. And if someone is betrayed, they will all join together. I know from experience, me and my friends have caused many a mans demise.

I think the original sci-fi movies with a split of the sexes that was popular had the women as the bad guys: the Amazons....

Don't you know hollywood is liberal and pushing an agenda at every turn -- they are atoning for male dominated society (not) they are trying to get more women into sci-fi since the market has typically been male dominated -- it is always about the benjamins

Guys aren't always the villains - especially not in comic books. Perhaps in mainstream Hollywood movies they are more likely because it's not "nice" to beat up a woman - and definitely not kill a woman.
