I cannot stand the word 'impertinent' we had a History teacher at school who used to call you an impertinent child if you got a question wrong, then he would tell you to put your hand on the desk and hit you with a thick leather strap, if I here that word now it takes me right back to the days of that bully of a teacher.

Words like impertinent are the reason English is the worlds most commonly learnt language. I think it is a lack of education to disregard words as 'ostentatious'; we don;t want to dumb the language down to a smattering of third rate synonyms with no diversity. Celebrate your language, use as much of it as you can.

I suppose any word spelt correctly and used in context will sound ostentatious to some. It is bad form to load a question incidentally!

Individuals with a good command of the English language should be able to use appropriate words as and how they feel fit without being condemned for it. To see/hear it being used as it should is wonderful - sadly with many today it is no longer the case and foul language is employed by them in order for them to express themselves. It would be great to be able to go somewhere and know that you wouldn't be exploited to language you would rather not hear.

It's like a saying I heard yesterday...my friend and coworker whose name just happens to be James Brown used the term "dukie shute" which I haven't heard in years..LMAO...I laughed the whole time at work because he jarred so many memories...LOL...I hadn't heard that since grade school!

Love it. When life is dull bring out the long words, they can make you laugh.
