I ask because of this site:

My daughter ordered Lois and Clark from there and what she got was bad quality DVDs that were obviously burnt from TV, TNT was in the corner of the screen and the quality was not DVD quality. Turns out that this company is in Canada. She sent an email to complain and they freely aknowledged that these were recorded from TV. They also gave her money back with no complaint at all. I know in the United States, this is copywrite infringement and you would goto jail.

Yes, they do. But it's up to the Canadian authorities to enforce this. By purchasing it, you were a party to the infringement, so you were right to send it back. Check at copyright.gov for specific information. I believe copyright law is negotiated bi-laterally, but I don't know if NAFTA has had an effect on this.

Possibly they could go to jail but it would be up to a DA to take it to court, sounds like they do this and if someone complains they return all monies, keeps them from getting caught. It wouldn't be worth it for you to pursue but you could make a police report and let them check this company out if they want to
