You need to see you family DR and expect to get a referal to an OB/GYN. Don't wait any longer...it could aggrevate to a condition where you will be sterile. DON'T WAIT!!

Ask your doctor " what is Polycystic ovarian syndrome". Don't worry what your mother thinks, your health is at risk. Here's some good news, many do not ave a "regular cycle". That is not unusual. Write down the dates you get your period. If they are heavy or painful etc. and the length of the period or anything significant like 1 pad an hr etc. This way, yuo can look over the whole picture of a yr. and see if there is any pattern.

Firstly, I applaud you for your choice!! I understand you being a private person...so am I... but, I for one feel that you need to see a doctor just to be on the safe side. You never know what could be the cause. There may be a cyst, a tumor or nothing at all but to be on the safe side...you should get it checked out. Sometimes they put you on a low dose birth control that will at least regulate you. Wouldn't that be better than what you are going through now? It usually lessens the flow also. As far as exposing yourself...think nothing of it. Things like that used to bother me also but it is just part of their everyday routine, when it comes to your health and well being things like that are trivial. Talk to your mom, you may find out how understanding she can be. I have a daughter who would go to friends or my sister before counseling with me and I guess I was the same but I think you should just blurt it out to your mom. Best wishes and Good luck!

Some women always have irregular periods. The best thing you could do is go to the gyno... I know what it is like your first time going... I was horrified! But it is not as bad as you would think... and they will probably put you on the pill... it is the best way to regulate periods, and I believe that it helps with flows... the gyno is something you will eventually have to do... and if you get it over with now... you won't have to go back for a while.

Missing periods is fine. Irregular length periods every month is odd.
Most women go through irregular periods and it's usually nothing.
Since you are young, I assume it's really nothing to worry about.
You're doctor can put you on birth control, but make sure you see a doctor for this. Isn't it worth to have shorter, less painful, and predictable menstrual cycles?

The rumors about painful pap smears are a fallacy, they're painless.

You are playing with fire. You could get burned. If you are bleeding heavily and have pain, clearly something is not correct. You are not making it better and it could be getting worse. Why haven't you spoken to your mother or female adult responsible for you? You do not want to wait until it is too late to make a correction. It could be something very simple that must be corrected now. Do not wait. Seek help. I am very private too. You just have to let them know your privacy issues when you make the appointment and find someone who is willing to work with you as much as they can. Not all doctors are pig-heads, some are very nice people and are really able to help. I am praying for your answer.

first off your still young so your periods should be irregular. maybe not as irregular as you explained so i really think you should suck it up and see your doc. my friend had period problems and it turned out to be cysts on her ovaries so honestly even if your a private person you should be checked out. dont worry your doc will be very professional about it and she probably has seen many other young woman with the same problems. and by the way you should be seen by a doc by the age of 18 even if you aren't having sex this is your health and possibly life your talking about. i hope things work out for you!!

Girl you need to go to a OBGYN for your first check up!
It is a natural part of being a woman. Pick a lady GYN.
You need to make sure everything is OK.
PS: Irregular periods are common the first few years, but you could have something else like endometriosis and you really need a gyn exam.

PS: good job staying celibate until marriage. great choice. you won't regret it

Go see the doc! Birth Control pills will help to regulate the cycles. Lose the modesty-the gynocologist's job is to be knowledgeable about what's going on
'down there'. Your mom will want you to go because she already knows it's the safe thing to do. She may be able to stay with you-depending on the office's rules.

I'd recommend going to a doctor. It can't hurt to do so. And it would be better to give up a little privacy than let a potential problem get worse.
