I could type out all of information you need, but the link below does it better, and with pictures. It contains all sorts of information about binding quilts. Scroll down about halfway and you'll find the section about continuous bias strips. Bias strips are supposed to be the best way to bind a quilt, especially if you have curved edges, because it is more flexible and has some stretch.
