This is a great question. First of all you need to create a demo of your music. Lots of times you can find a professional musician who will help record your music. It is important to find someone who can take your music to the next level. A demo doesn't have to be a big production but it should be very good quality. Once you get the demo done start looking for producers that accept unsolicited demos for your particular style (example rock, country, instrumental) and send the demos to them. Check the internet for a list of producers. If a producer likes your stuff he/she might return a publishing contract to you. I have been doing this for 20 years and have only had one song played on the radio. It is a hard business to get into but when you hear your song on the radio it is all worth it. Three things to remember. 1) Don't give up. 2) If you like your music that is the most important thing. 3) Keep writing. Good Luck.

If you do have some, register as a band on myspace and display it.
Otherwise copywrite it with the US Copywrite Office,
(not "the poor man's copywrite," this is business)
get a good book on music law, and read it, so you know the many ways to make money off of music and what your rights are, and approach performers with "demo tapes," as well as sending them to labels, don't judge your own work. Persevere, never quit.

Last year when when the Confederate Flag became a sign of racism it made me stop and think, who died in that war? Lets see it was men, women, children, black, white, North and South that's when it hit me, they were all Americans. Everyone that fought and died in that war died with honor my singing partner and myself wrote a song called Americans Like You and Me. Our song is Bluegrass and our demo was produced and recorded in Nashville but now we need help moving it up to the next level.Thank you Lloyd Post

There are tons of people out there who can strum a guitar or play a piano well, but are completely inept at writing songs. It sounds like you need to buddy up.

Can you click on a mouse and type on a computer?
If so, use a midi program like Cakewalk (http://www.cakewalk.com) and click in the melody and try out different arrangements. There is also another program called Music-In-A-Box (http://www.pgmusic.com/) that provides a framework for accompaniment.
