Food in Greece is amazing. Most popular dishes are souvlaki, Greek salad, moussaka, pastistio, lamp-spaghetti, dolmadakia, spinach pie, tzatziki, shrimp, squid, taramosalata, soutzoukakia and of course fresh fish. In Athens, visit Plaka and Psiri areas. There you will find many traditional taverns and restaurants. My favorite restaurant in Athens is Platanos. Maybe we meet there because I use to eat frequently there! It is very quiet, real traditional and has good prices. (see the link).
In Thesaloniki visit Ladhadhika area It's a very beautiful area. my favorite place there is Zythos (see link) In Thessaloniki taste peinirli, sousamenio koulouri, the local sweets "trigona Panoramatos" and "Bougatsa Pie" (see last link with recipes!)

Eat lamb, or if you are a fishfoodlover.. go for that..
Do not go for the big advertised and tourist orientated restaurants.. try the small outlets on the countryside and in the little ports.. you will pay half for double quality/quantity portions..
Try to keep Greece authentic; give them the right signals.. it is still absolutly the best place in the world to stay..

Georgia gave some tremendous suggestion. In an section like Greece, the position you comprehend there is sturdy nutrition available outdoors the motel, you likely shouldn't reduce your self with "all inclusive". Grocery save expenditures are oftentimes lower than in western Europe. in case you save at a laiki (outdoors market), that could be cutting-edge in a great number of communities a pair of times a week, you'll oftentimes get even decrease expenditures. eating position expenditures are literally not that low anymore, yet back, they're lower than an section like the united kingdom.

go to small place run by families. If near the sea then fish is excellent. The food is very different from most American food being more natural and less processed, This is, after all, the famous Mediterranean diet,

The best places to go are the small tavernas in any of these places. The food is good and cheaper than larger restaurants.

Well, dear, you chose those relatively smaller places full of local people!
They will be cheaper, better food and better climate!
